Compared to other goat breeds, Pygmy goats require less
space, eat less and are easier to handle. Their docile and
affectionate temperament makes them an excellent family pet.
They also make great companions for other animals,
especially horses.
Pygmy goats, unlike other breeds of goats will breed out of
season. Therefore, they will often produce more than one kid
crop per year. Gestation lasts approximately 151 days with
most births occurring in the spring. Single births are common
the first time, but after that twins or triplets are not
uncommon. It is strongly recommended that females not be
bred until they are at least one year of age. Earlier breeding
can cause major problems to the female. The life-span of the
Pygmy goat is usually from 10 to 15 years.
